Supported independent living

Supported Independent Living in Melbourne’s south-east

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is NDIS funding for the support you receive in a shared home — not for the house itself. Diamond Care Victoria delivers SIL in our homes in Cranbourne North and Melbourne's south-east, with overnight and active night support where your plan funds it. Registered NDIS provider, approved to 9 October 2028.

The shared living room at 3 Phelan Drive — two large leather sofas, a television and wide tiled floor, with garden windows along one wall.

Untangled

SIL, SDA and rent — untangled in three sentences

SIL is the support

The workers who help with personal care, meals, medication prompting, routines, skills, and being there overnight.

SDA is specialist housing

For high physical support needs, funded separately — and we are not an SDA provider.

Rent and board are yours

They come from your own income, the same as any tenant.

You can receive SIL in a home that isn’t SDA; most people do.

Our homes

Our homes

Our supported living homes are in the City of Casey, Melbourne’s south-east. Each is a real house in a real street — and each home’s page shows its layout, accessibility features, support model and current vacancy status, date-stamped so you know it’s live information.

Day to day

What support looks like, day to day

Morning and evening personal care at your pace, with your preferences respected. Meal planning, shopping and cooking — with you, not just for you. Medication support within the boundaries our workers are trained and authorised for. Getting to appointments, work, study and activities. Building the skills you want: cooking, laundry, budgeting, public transport, running your own routine. And overnight support — sleepover or active night — where your plan funds it.

Matching

Housemate matching, and your say in it

You meet the household before anything is decided. We talk through routines, noise, sleep, food, culture, language, gender preferences and what a good day looks like — for you and for them. Compatibility is a two-way decision. If it isn’t right, we say so rather than fill a bed.

The process

How you move in

  1. Enquiry or referral

From you, family, your support coordinator or a hospital team.

  2. Suitability conversation

    Support needs, funding, timing.

  3. Visit

Walk the home, meet the household.

  4. Assessment and roster of care

The document SIL funding is quoted from.

  5. Service agreement and transition plan

With a start date you helped set.

  6. Review at four weeks

    Then on a regular cycle.

Safeguards

Safeguards you don’t have to ask for

Every worker holds an NDIS Worker Screening Check and completes the NDIS Worker Orientation Module. Supervision, incident reporting and escalation are documented, not improvised. Where a restrictive practice is authorised in someone’s plan, we implement it exactly as written by the specialist practitioner and report monthly to the NDIS Commission. And your support and your tenancy are kept separate — you don’t lose your home because you change support provider.

How we’re held to standard

Funding

How SIL funding works

SIL is quoted from a roster of care — the hours, ratios and overnight arrangements your needs require — which the NDIA assesses against your plan. We help prepare the evidence and we’re straight about one thing: we can’t guarantee what the NDIA will fund, and you should be wary of any provider who says they can.

FAQs

Questions people ask us

Is SIL the same as SDA?

No. SIL is support; SDA is specialist housing, funded separately. We provide SIL and are not an SDA provider.

Do I pay rent as well?

Yes — rent and board come from your income, not your plan. Every cost is put in writing before you commit.

Is there a vacancy right now?

Each home’s page carries its current status with a last-updated date, or call 1300 765 559 and ask.

Can I bring my current support workers?

Maybe — in a shared home the roster covers the household. Ask us and we’ll give you a real answer for your situation.

What if I don’t get along with a housemate?

Tell us early. We work on it, and if it can’t be resolved we help you look at alternatives. You won’t be left in a home that isn’t working.

Can I change SIL providers?

Yes, at any time — it’s your plan. If you’re leaving us, we’ll cooperate with a clean handover, because that’s what we’d want arriving.

Tell us what you need. We respond within one business day.

Call the office, or send the request form and we’ll confirm your funding pathway, your suburb and whether we can genuinely deliver what you need. If we can’t, we’ll say so and point you to someone who can.
